Hangdog Hearts – Flesh ‘n Blood #manlymusicfriday
I heard about the Hangdog Hearts from my cousin in Indiana. Love the six string banjo and the dark southern gothic feel.

Nature itself is going through a reset – the days are getting longer, the flowers and buds are forming on the trees, and mammalian creatures as awakening from their winter slumber.
As spring nears, you may find yourself still a little groggy from winter, and your inner grizzly may need some awakening.
Men, let’s look at how we can shake off the winter sleep and get ourselves ready to growl, eat fish, and maul hikers… err… something.
I know I’m not the perfect example of health. I’m overweight and out of shape – but I am working on it.
Regardless – I’ve lost like 8,000 pounds, if you add it all up. 🙂 I have learned a thing or two about fitness – even if I haven’t applied it.
That being said – let’s make it a point to apply it. Whether you are a fat old grizzly, or a svelt young grizzly – we can all benefit by taking some time to get our body moving, and to eat better.
That’s honestly the secret to any fitness, really. Move more – eat better.
My point is, what ARE you going to do to give your body some attention? Weight training? Cardio? What are you eating that you should stop eating?
Take some time to talk to your doctor, a personal trainer, or someone to help you come up with a plan to improve your physical fitness.
Get your inner grizzly turned into a force to be reckoned with.
Glen Hansard makes music that could fit in just about anywhere – from church to an irish pub.
Or driving down the freeway.

It’s time to realign your mind, and shake yourself awake.
1. Make a reading list.
If you don’t normally read, find a book or audio book and make it a point to read it or listen to it Pick something different than your normal fare… try some poetry, or non-fiction, or sci-fi. Read something you wouldn’t normally have read.
2. Take a video game fast.
Delete Candy Crush from your phone. Turn off the PS4. Put it away for a week or a month to try to get yourself tuned in to your surroundings. If you want to play a game – pick up a deck of cards and learn a new card game – or engage your buddies in a game of chess or Risk.
3. Listen to some new music. Something you’ve never heard before. It stirs up the soul, and gets you thinking.
4. Write some letters.
Not just emails. Drag out the paper and pen, and write someone an old fashioned letter. Maybe an old friend, mentor, or teacher – and let them know how much they meant to you.
5. Learn a new skill.
Is there something you don’t know that you want to know? Can you watch a youtube tutorial? Read a book? Take a class? Do something to expand your mind.
6. Practice some already acquired skills.
Maybe a little target practice with your pistol, or a few hours of banjo playing to hone those skills you already have.
Wake your inner grizzly by stimulating that big ole’ grizzly head.
No doubt that Johnny Cash is a man’s man…. fighting off his demons and making music that still reverberates…

February – thanks to St. Valentine’s Day – it’s filled with hearts and doilies and talk of love.
Funny how love can turn a big, hairy man into a blubbering pile of conversation hearts and rose petals, right?
You may have the woman of your dreams all lined up. She might even think you are pretty cool – maybe even date you for a little while…
But let’s make something clear – she doesn’t HAVE to love you. You cannot force someone to love you. As much as love is a choice for YOU – it’s a choice for HER.
When you chose to tell her that you love her, and to show her that you love her – obviously, you hope that she wants to give you love in return. But if you are giving that love with the goal of obligating her to love you – you are missing the point.
She does not HAVE to love you.
You cannot MAKE her love you.
All you can do is show her who you are, how you feel, and how you value her. If she reciprocates, it can be a beautiful thing. But never, ever, assume that you are OWED love in return. Love doesn’t demand reciprocation.
I seriously can’t get enough Mumford and Sons. While there new stuff sounds a little more like Coldplay, and a little less like grandpa’s music – I still like it too.
Marcus and the crew sing with gusto and passion – and if you aren’t going to sing with gusto and passion, why sing at all?

There’s a big stigma in Hollywood surrounding the words “I love you.” They make a really big deal about those words, and when they are supposed to be said. As a result – I think we’ve sanctified those words a little too much…. we’ve made them holy, and then we get the idea that the words themselves define what love is,
The truth is – those words mean NOTHING if they aren’t followed up with action.
“I love you” and yet, I’ll disrespect your body for my own pleasure.
“I love you” and yet, I won’t commit to you. I won’t marry you, because I don’t think I love you permanently.
“I love you” and yet – I’ll chew your face off if you don’t do something right.
“I love you” and yet – I still love those other hot women on my computer screen.
If you really love someone, it has to be more than just words. It has to be words AND action.
And the words DO matter – why would you love someone and never tell them? Make sure to tell the people in your life that you love them (your wife, your kids, your parents, even your friends.) I don’t want anyone to ever wonder if I did love them. I want them to know it, not just because I said it, but because I showed it with my actions.
Considering that Phillip Phillips made it all the way through the American Idol competition with a horrible kidney infection – we’re gonna go ahead and count him as manly for our #manlymusicfriday
