Because of my support and encouragement for men – I’m often accused of being anti-feminist – or chauvinistic. The truth is – I think women are awesome! I may not agree with the politics behind a lot of contemporary feminism, I like to think that feminism at it’s core is a good thing.
The current climate between modern feminists and the “patriarchy” has dominated a lot of the attitudes about the situation. I think many men want to be respected by the women in their lives – and they feel lumped in with the rest of men – and it’s created an atmosphere of tension.
What if you could break that tension with one simple idea?
If you want to get respect – you have to give respect.
Women won’t respect you if you demand it – if you think you have earned it just because you have a penis. If you want respect from anyone – then give it.

You’ve seen the jokes about asking women to “make me a sandwich” – the truth is – the joke really isn’t funny. I think men that find it funny are probably valuing women less than they think they are.
Are jokes disparaging to african-americans still funny? They shouldn’t be. And neither should jokes that demand that women stay in the kitchen.
Also – just for the record – there’s nothing wrong with a woman who wants to make a sandwich for a man. But if he expects it – or doesn’t say “thanks” – then he’s a douche.

To be honest, sometimes contemporary feminists are just as guilty about this as many men are.
Staying at home to raise children is a noble calling. Going to work to provide for your family is a noble calling.
Do not look down at a woman for doing either. Rather, show support and respect.
I know that the words “just a mom” are hurtful to moms who work as hard as any CEO.
And I know thoughts that accuse working moms of not being there for their kids are just as harsh.
I think it’s important for us as men to take a position of support, and not judgment.

One of the biggest banner of feminism is “Equal Pay for Equal Work” – it makes me question why we still don’t have this!
If two people are equally qualified for a job, they are both entitled to be paid at the same rate- and gender shouldn’t make a difference.
It is not un-manly to embrace this ideal.

People use social media like they should use a private journal. Airing things out on the line that should never be expressed publicly. Men shouldn’t do this. Facebook Drama is for girls.
It’s okay to share about your life on facebook. That’s kind of the point – but watch your motivation. I see people all the time posting a list of reasons to feel sorry for them – or a list of all of the good things they do so that others can like them.
Sometimes – those motives are pretty obvious. Sometimes – you simply need to ask yourself a question or two before you post. Am I posting this for attention? Am I posting this so that someone will say something nice to me? Am I posting this because I want people to see how awesome I am?
It’s as simple as thinking before you hit submit.
